One of Erbert & Gerbert’s favorite Saturday afternoon activities is to parachute from Halleys Comet and see where they land. On one recent adventure, the boys were surprised to touch down in a strange and wondrous place they did not recognize. “Where are we,” they asked. And a talking sunflower named Simon told them, “Welcome to Cally! Let me fix you a sandwich!” Hungry from their adventure, the boys were happy to have met Simon, and even happier when he whipped up amazing sandwiches with ingredients from his beautiful Cally garden. The boys were a little surprised Simon didn’t put any meat on the sandwiches, but Simon explained that in Cally, vegetables are so plentiful, fresh, and delicious that no one really misses the meat. He stacked those sandwiches high with avocado and tomato, onion and red bell pepper, sweet chili sauce and provolone cheese, and the boys realized Simon was right: sometimes a veggie sandwich is just the thing. As night fell over Cally, the boys waved goodbye to Simon and hopped back on Halleys Comet for their trip home. But they never forgot that day’s adventure and, in Simon’s honor, they duplicated the deliciousness of that fresh vegetable creation and named it for his homeland: Cally.
