Erbert & Gerbert’s Sandwich Shop has been a quick-service staple in Wisconsin and Minnesota for over 26 years. In addition to that, we’ve taken our brand across the U.S., opening in sites as far flung as New York, Texas, and Arizona, just to name a few. But we haven’t had the opportunity to develop in a bordering state to our major, upper-midwest footprint; Iowa. That all changed when we reached out to Lloyd and Jan Bier.
Lloyd and Jan seemed like the perfect candidates for us to approach. They have experience with franchising and running a restaurant in the pizza segment, plus they have a working knowledge of several markets in the Iowa area. So, we sent the Bier’s some information on our brand and gave them a call to pitch the idea.
Shortly thereafter, Lloyd began doing a little research on E&G. He had a son, who attended Iowa State and had a few friends from the Twin Cities area in Minnesota. Perhaps they had heard of the brand? “They said it was great!” Lloyd commented and so the Bier’s decided to visit our corporate offices (in Eau Claire, WI) for a Discovery Day. Lloyd offered, “I think the one thing that finally convinced us was when myself and Jan went to Eau Claire. Everyone was so nice and we liked how the atmosphere felt. We got the feeling of them really caring for their franchisees.”
Lloyd and Jan inked a multi-unit deal with Erbert & Gerbert’s because they were looking to diversify with a different, fun concept, and they were excited that we would be new to their markets. “We truly believe that the brand will be widely accepted. It all comes down to how the stores are run and the main thing I am going to push is guest service. We need to ‘wow’ the guest and get involved in the communities that we are in. The food will speak for itself, we just need to get them in the door and keep them coming back,” said Lloyd. With that kind of commitment to service, we have no doubt Lloyd and Jan will make great operators! All parties are looking forward to an opening in Iowa during the spring of 2015.
